India’s Church voices support for Kandhamal Christians
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has pledged the commitment and closeness of the Catholic Church of India to the Christians of the eastern state of Odisha who continue to suffer after facing untold violence over 7 years ago. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, Archbishop Trivandrum, the president of the CBCI, the apex body of the Catholic Church in India, expressed this in a message to Archbishop John Barwa of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar whose jurisdiction covers Kandhamal district, which in 2008 witnessed perhaps the worst anti-Christian violence in the history of India. “I join in praying and thanking God for the blessings showered upon the Kandhamal Christian community. I want to assure my commitment and the unwavering support of the CBCI to the suffering brethren in Kandhamal,” Cardinal Cleemis wrote in his letter.
Pope Francis meets with President of Zambia
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis met with the President of Zambia, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, on Friday morning. A communiqué from the Press Office of the Holy See informs that the Pope and the President held cordial discussions on a range of topics, including the contribution of the Catholic Church to the upbuilding of Zambian society, the promotion of peaceful co-existence through a culture of dialogue and encounter, migration, climate change and the protection of the environment. The Holy Father and the President also discussed international issues, with special focus on the conflicts that affect various areas of Africa and the commitment of the country to regional peace.

Włoskie Stowarzyszenie Pediatryczne ostrzega przed "rodzicami" jednopłciowymi
Włoscy pediatrzy włączyli się do trwającej we Włoszech debaty o legalizacji związków homoseksualnych i przyznaniu im prawa do adopcji. Przewodniczący Włoskiego Stowarzyszenia Pediatrycznego prof. Giovanni Corsello ostrzegł, że wzrastanie w środowisku homoseksualnym może być dla dzieci szkodliwe. Podobnego zdania jest również wiceprzewodniczący tegoż stowarzyszenia prof. Alberto Villani. W rozmowie z Radiem Watykańskim zauważył on, że do wniosków tych skłania pediatrów codzienne doświadczenie. Jego zdaniem sprawa jest oczywista. Zawsze na przykład kiedy pojawiają się problemy wychowawcze z dziećmi, pierwszym krokiem jest rozmowa z rodzicami, zadbanie o właściwe relacje dziecka z ojcem i matką – mówi prof. Villani.
Watykan na konferencji donatorów dla Syrii: w 2015 r. 150 mln $
150 mln dolarów przeznaczyły w ubiegłym roku kościelne instytucje dobrocznne na pomoc dla ofiar konfliktu w Syrii. Pomocą tą objętych zostały 4 mln osób. Dane te podał w Londynie szef watykańskiej dyplomacji abp Paul Gallagher. Wziął on dziś udział w całodniowej konferencji państw donatorów, udzielających pomocy ludności syryjskiej. Co ciekawe największą sumę w kościelnej pomocy przeznaczono na edukację: 37 mln dolarów. Dopiero w dalszej kolejności na liście wydatków znajduje się pożywienie, inna pomoc doraźna czy służba zdrowia.
Kard. Parolin w słoweńskim obozie dla uchodźców
Przebywający w Słowenii kard. Pietro Parolin odwiedził dziś obóz dla uchodźców w Dobovej. Spotkał się tam z migrantami pochodzącymi z Syrii, Iraku, Afganistanu i Iranu. Oświadczył, że przybywa w imieniu Papieża, by zapewnić o jego solidarności z uchodźcami i tymi, którzy śpieszą im z pomocą. W tym kontekście wspomniał o wielkim zaangażowaniu słoweńskiej Caritas.
