President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for Vatican Radio: The icon of Jasna Gora has grown into Polish culture
The icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Jasna Góra has grown not only into Poland’s religiosity but also into the nation’s culture and tradition. It is a unifying gathering point - stressed the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki, in an interview with Vatican Radio and the Vatican News service. Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Our Lady of Częstochowa.

„Chrześcijanie Ziemi Świętej potrzebują konkretnego wsparcia. Oni nie proszą świata o jałmużnę, tylko o pracę”. Wskazuje na to włoski biskup Riccardo Fontana uczestniczący w trwającej tam właśnie wizycie solidarności grupy biskupów z Europy, Ameryki Północnej i RPA. Ta doroczna pielgrzymka służy m.in. zapoznaniu się z aktualną sytuację wyznawców Chrystusa w Izraelu i na terenie Autonomii Palestyńskiej, a ma też na celu umacnianie tamtejszych Kościołów i chrześcijan.
Solemnity of Our Lady of Czestochowa in the sign of Polish-Ukrainian relations
The Eucharist on the occasion of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Czestochowa was presided in the Sanctuary of Jasna Gora by Archbishop Wojciech Polak, Primate of Poland, and concelebrated by many bishops and international guests i.a. Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In the Holy Mass participated tens of thousands of pilgrims.
7-9 July: Church commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the tragic events in Volhynia
Church commemorations of the 80th anniversary of the tragic events in Volhynia will be held on 7-9 July in Poland and Ukraine. Representatives from the Catholic Church in Poland, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine will be in attendance. A statement on forgiveness and reconciliation will be signed jointly during the ceremony.
Pope makes surprise visit to San Carlo community
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Friday paid a surprise visit to the San Carlo community at the Italian Centre for Solidarity (CeIS) near Castelgandalfo in the Alban hills. Founded by Father Mario Picchi, the San Carlo community works to prevent and combat social exclusion, focusing especially on those suffering from drug addiction.
