Possible papal visit to Auschwitz
(Vatican Radio) “It is very likely that Pope Francis will visit the concentration camp at Auschwitz,” during his visit to Kraków, according to Father Federico Lombardi, S.J., the head of the Holy See Press Office. He noted that every Pope who has gone to Kraków has later travelled to the notorious World War II death camp.

Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Benedict XVI, was born at Marktl am Inn, Diocese of Passau (Germany) on 16 April 1927 (Holy Saturday) and was baptised on the same day.His faith and the education received at home prepared him for the harsh experience of those years during which the Nazi regime pursued a hostile attitude towards the Catholic Church. (Vatican Radio) Veronica Scarisbrick, our correspondent covering the papal visit to Mexico looks at the long-standing devotion by the Mexican faithful to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose shrine will be visited by Pope Francis on Saturday. She retraces the bitter persecution of the Catholic Church in Mexico during a large part of the 19th century when anti-clericalism was enshrined in the nation’s constitution for many decades.
Pope visits pediatric hospital in Mexico City
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis on Sunday visited the “Federico Gómez” Pediatric Hospital in Mexico City. He told the children " I ask God to bless you, and to accompany you and your families, and all those people who work in this home and try to ensure that your smiles grow day by day." The hospital was inaugurated in 1943 and it was visited by Pope St John Paul II on his journey to Mexico in 1979.
Pope Francis names Douglas Deshotel as Bishop of Lafayette
(Vatican Radio) Pope Francis has named Bishop John Douglas Deshotel, as Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, and accepted the resignation of Bishop C. Michael Jarrell, from pastoral governance of that diocese. Bishop Deshotel has served as an auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Dallas since 2010.
