The Holy Father Francis has appointed Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi, formerly Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, as Apostolic Nuncio to Poland. The Pope’s decision was announced on August 8 by the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland.

Archbishop Antonio Guido Filipazzi was born on October 8, 1963 in Melzo (Milan), Italy.

He was ordained a priest on October 10, 1987.

He was incardinated to the diocese of Ventimiglia – San Remo.

After obtaining a doctorate in canon law, he was assigned to diplomatic work at the Holy See on July 1, 1992.

He worked in the Holy See’s diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka, Austria, Germany and in the State Relations Section of the Secretariat of State.

On January 8, 2011, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio and elevated to the dignity of Archbishop (titular Archbishop of Sutri).

On February 5, 2011, he was ordained a bishop.

On March 23, 2011, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Indonesia.

On April 26, 2017, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria.

On October 24, 2017, he was appointed Permanent Representative to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS/ ECOWAS).

On August 8, 2023, he was appointed the 74th Apostolic Nuncio to Poland.

In addition to Italian, he speaks French, English and German.
