On July 27, the first day of his Poland visit for the World Youth Day event in Krakow, Pope Francis will among others meet Polish President Andrzej Duda and government officials.
Upon his arrival at Krakow’s John Paul II Airport on July 27 at 4:00 pm, the Pope will be greeted by the Polish president, government members and church officials. An official welcoming ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm in Krakow’s Wawel Castle.
Pope Francis will also meet members of the diplomatic corps, he and Duda will also deliver addresses. Subsequently the Pope will pay a courtesy visit to Duda.
At 6:30 pm the Pope will meet Polish bishops, in the evening he will greet the faithful from a so-called papal window in the Krakow Archbishops’ Palace.
On July 28 the Pope will attend a mass commemorating the 1050th anniversary of Poland’s conversion to Christianity in the Jasna Gora sanctuary in Czestochowa. In the evening he will greet WYD participants on Krakow’s Blonia Commons. In the evening the Pope will again greet the faithful from the papal window.
On July 29 Pope Francis will visit the site of the World War Two Nazi death camp Auschwitz, in the afternoon he will meet young patients from Krakow’s University Child Clinic and their parents.
In the evening the Pope will lead a Way of the Cross procession on Blonia Commons, after which he will again show himself in the papal window.
On July 30 Pope Fracis will visit the Divine Mercy and St. John Paul II sanctuaries in nearby Lagiewniki, in the evening he will attend a prayer vigil with youth on the Campus Misericordiae site in Brzegi by Wieliczka.
At 1:00 pm the Pope will attend a dinner with Krakow metropoliotan bishop Stanislaw Dziwisz and youth delegates.
On July 31, the last day of his visit, the Pope will among others celebrate a mass closing the WYD event attended by members of the Polish goverrnment and speak with WYD volunteers.
A farewell ceremony for the Pope is scheduled for 6:15 pm a Krakow’s Balice military airport. (PAP)
