“We thank the Lord God and Our Lady of Fatima for having saved the life of the Polish Pope and, hence, for his long pontificate, which has strongly marked the history of the universal Church and the world,” said the President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Stanislaw Gądecki, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the assassination attempt on the life of the Holy Father John Paul II, which fell on May 13th this year.
