The relics of the Blessed Ulma Family will travel to all Polish dioceses, as decided by the Polish Bishops’ Conference. The peregrination will start with a Holy Mass on the Jasna Góra hilltop on Sunday, 24 September, during the National Pilgrimage of Married Couples and Families.

The National Center for Family Pastoral Care, in cooperation with the Archdiocese of Przemyśl and with the consent of Archbishop Adam Szal, Metropolitan of Przemyśl, proposed the journey of the relics of Blessed Joseph and Wiktoria Ulma and their children to Polish dioceses. The bishops approved the initiative at the 394th Plenary Session of the Polish Bishops’ Conference held in Warsaw on 13 and 14 March.

The solemn inauguration of the nationwide peregrination will take place during the 39th Pilgrimage of Married Couples and Families to Jasna Góra from 23 to 24 September. Its program includes, among others, the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the new Blessed and a presentation entitled Holiness in Everyday Life by the postulator of the beatification cause, Fr. Dr. Witold Burda.

The focal point of the peregrination will be the Sunday Eucharist celebrated by Archbishop Adam Szal. At the end of the Mass, he will hand over the relics to representatives of the Archdiocese of Częstochowa. The relics will stay in respective dioceses for a week.

ąAs emphasized by the National Centre for Family Pastoral Care Director, Fr. Robert Wielądek, the initiative could bring the Ulma family closer to the faithful in Poland and remind them of the universal call to holiness. It may also be a prayer time for families, spouses, and fiancées. Fr. Wielądek adds that Catholic-Jewish relations may also be an important theme in the context of the peregrination. “We hope that it will also contribute to the revival of activities aimed at helping those most in need,” he stresses. The Archdiocese of Przemyśl prepared the reliquary of the Blessed Family, which will be accompanied by a painting depicting Józef and Wiktoria Ulma with their children. The diocesan teams for general and family pastoral care are responsible for the route and planning of the event.
