As we prepare for the beatification ceremony, we wish to contemplate their holiness and draw from it an example for contemporary marriages and families – wrote the bishops in the Pastoral Letter of the Polish Bishops’ Conference concerning the beatification of the Venerable Servants of God Joseph and Victoria Ulma and their seven children.

The Ulma family will be raised to the glory of the altars as martyrs on 10 September this year. „This will be an unprecedented beatification, as it will be the first time an entire family will be raised to the altars and the first time a yet unborn child will be beatified,” the Letter reads.

The bishops stressed that Joseph and Victoria Ulma show the beauty and value of marriage based on Christ. „Their love realised in everyday life can also motivate people to be open to life and to take responsibility for the upbringing of the young generation. A heroic attitude of love towards our neighbours should stimulate us to live not so much for our own comfort or desire to possess, but to live a life of self-giving for others,” the bishops wrote.

„As we await the beatification, let us gaze at the example of such an extraordinary family who reached holiness in the ordinary circumstances of life. This family is an inspiration for today’s marriages and families,” – reads the Bishops’ Letter.
