A 120-member band of musicians including 50 from the official Orchestra of the Polish Border Guard will perform for Pope Francis on Thursday, July 28, during a welcoming ceremony in the southern city of Krakow.

„This is a unique event in the history of our band; we have been preparing for it for a long time,” Lt. Col. Stanislaw Straczek, the head of the Nowy Sacz-based orchestra and its conductor, has told PAP.

The traditional Krakow bugle call will be played during the ceremony in which Mayor Jacek Majchrowski will hand over the keys to the city to Pope Francis.

„We will be performing directly before and after the event,” said Straczek, adding that the repertoire will include religious songs „associated with the Holy Father.”(PAP)
