I recognise the need to help those who have been hurt, I pray for them every day and I undertake actions which contribute to revealing the truth in all cases of this kind – said Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda SAC, the President of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, in a video message in connection with allegations appearing in the media space concerning alleged negligence connected with the investigation of the case of one of the priests of the Archdiocese of Gdansk.

Recently in the media space there have been accusations directed against me and the persons conducting the hearing in the Church Court in Gdansk. These concerned alleged negligence in relation to the proceedings in the case of one of the priests of the Archdiocese of Gdansk and a lack of proper empathy towards those who accused him.

I would like to assure you that the proceedings, despite various media suggestions, are being conducted properly with concern for all those involved. Certainly, any revisiting of harms suffered is for the harmed person a very painful experience, of which we may not always be fully aware. Therefore, if the process lacked the expected and due empathy, I am very sorry for it. Although the process is not yet over, I declare that, just as I have met and spoken to many of those reporting complaints in the past, I will continue to take steps to clarify any allegations and doubts.

At the same time, I want to make it clear that I recognise the need to help those who have been hurt, I pray for them every day and I take action that contributes to revealing the truth in all cases of this kind.
